
Volunteer Opportunities
GETTING STARTED
Potential volunteers participate in an interview with the Volunteer Services Coordinator and are given a tour of the home. After the screening process is complete, the volunteer is matched with the activity that reflects their interests, strengths, and desires.
PLACEMENT & TRAINING
Let us know what you'd love to do. Time, availability, current openings, and the volunteer's interests are key factors in determining a suitable and beneficial placement. Specific training & orientation is conducted by staff members. Police checks and TB tests are required.
Vision '74 offers many different types of volunteer opportunities, see below what type of placement would be right for you:

Visiting
To provide social contact, read, write letters, assistance for walks, manicures, etc.
Commitment: Flexible times weekly.

Leisure Activities
To provide assistance with resident recreational programs, such as baking, crafts, gardening, manicures, games, special events, and outings.
Commitment: Flexible days & times as per monthly calendar.

Cafe / Tuck Shop
To provide residents with the opportunity to purchase snack items, stamps, cards and personal care items.
Commitment: Up to 2 times weekly.

Palliative Care
To provide comfort and support to our residents and their families.
Commitment: As needed*.
*Palliative Care Training preferred. Courses may be arranged through Vision '74.

Portering
Portering residents to music activities, socials, games, bus outings.
Commitment: Half hour prior, during and following a planned event.

Assistive Feeding
To provide extra help in the dining room to residents who need a little extra care.
Commitment: Meal times (8:00am, noon, or 5:00pm) daily.

Reading Program
To read to residents who have requested this service.
Commitment: One shift weekly.
